Calling customers

The AxleOS extension puts a phone dialer on every Tekmetric page, so you can call a customer without leaving what you're doing. Calls ring your shop phone first — pick up, and AxleOS connects the customer. The customer sees your shop's number as caller ID, and the call is transcribed and coached like any other shop call.

Before your first call

You need to be signed in to AxleOS (axleos.ai) in the same browser — one click with your Microsoft work account. If you're not signed in, the dialer will tell you exactly that when you try to call.

The button

Look for the two-part pill in the bottom-right corner of any Tekmetric page:

  • Orange phone half — opens the dialer.
  • Dark engine half — AI diagnosis. It's active on repair orders and dimmed everywhere else.

Drag the pill anywhere. Drop it near a screen edge and it tucks into a small orange tab — click the tab to bring it back. Click the x to hide it entirely; a small circle remains to restore it.

Four ways to start a call

From a repair order. Open the dialer on an RO and the customer is already at the top — one click and you're calling them.

Search by name. Type a customer's name into the dialer. It searches your shop's own Tekmetric records and lists matching customers with their numbers.

Dial a number. Use the dialpad or type a number. When it's complete, a Call this number row appears — click it (or press Enter).

Right-click a number on the page. Highlight any phone number you can see in Tekmetric, right-click, and choose Call with AxleOS.

The dialer also remembers your last five calls for quick redial. That list stays on your computer only.

Picking your phone

The first time you call, choose which shop phone should ring you — Front Desk, Lobby, wherever you're standing. AxleOS remembers your choice for next time (you can always change it). When you place the call:

  1. Your chosen phone rings. Pick it up.
  2. A short prompt confirms the call is connecting.
  3. The customer's phone rings, showing your shop's caller ID.

Good to know

  • Calls placed this way are recorded and transcribed the same as inbound shop calls, and show up in Phone Coach credited to you.
  • The customer's number comes from Tekmetric's own records — nothing to copy or retype, no misdials.
  • Only US numbers are supported.

If something's off

What you see What it means
"Sign in to AxleOS first" Open axleos.ai in another tab, sign in with Microsoft, try again.
"AxleOS could not read the shop from this page" You're on a page the extension doesn't recognize — send us the path it shows.
"No desk phones are set up for this shop yet" Your shop's phone list hasn't been configured — contact IT.
"…isn't a US phone number" The highlighted text wasn't a complete 10-digit number.
The engine half is dimmed Normal — diagnosis needs an open repair order. Calling works everywhere.

Still stuck? support@axleos.ai — include what the dialer said and the page you were on.
